Hit Prediction: Top 20 – US Billboard Pop 100, Top 10 – Billboard Digital Songs
Date: August 3, 2009
Current Position: #95 – US Billboard Hot 100
On his debut single “One Time” Justin Bieber sings like a young Usher Raymond. One listen to Bieber’s sweet voice and it’s clear that this kid is blessed with the gift of R&B.
Bieber’s vocals are so high-pitched you could easily mistake him for a girl but don’t hate on him. Justin Bieber sings like he means it.
“One Time” is the type of song that is perfect for Disney Channel and Radio Disney. If it catches on with the Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana crowd then it will be a surefire hit on pop radio.
My guess is that teenagers won’t be the only ones feeling this song. “One Time” has style and appeal that is just right for the current pop-leaning R&B market, territory that The-Dream (one of the songwriters behind “One Time”) is very familiar with.
“One Time” reached #12 on the singles chart in Canada (where Bieber is from) and #6 on the digital singles chart there.
The Canadian and US charts tend to parallel each other pretty closely so I expect that in a few months “One Time” will be a top 20 record on the US Billboard charts.
Depending on the performance of “One Time” on the US charts, I suspect that it could become a top 40 song in Australia and New Zealand as well.
Do you think Justin Bieber is adorable and/or talented?
Is “One Time” a good song or just some BS the Disney kids might like?
