“Empire State of Mind” is #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 (and #1 on the Digital chart).
Number five already!?
OK I saw this one coming. I just didn’t see it happening so fast.
Just last week “Empire State of Mind” debuted at #50 on the Billboard Hot 100. I thought I had time to wait a week or so before posting a hit pick for it but apparently not. That sucks. So much for the saved draft I was working on a few days ago…
“Empire State of Mind” is a certified hit right now but there’s still a little room left for a few Billboard predictions so here goes:
Top 5 – R&B/Hip-Hop
Top 10 – Rap
Top 20 – Pop, European Hot 100
Current chart stats:
#19 – Rap
#41 – European Hot 100
#51 – R&B/Hip-Hop
“Empire State of Mind” is nowhere on the Pop chart but if it sustains heavy rotation at urban stations and stays inside the top 10 of the Hot 100 for about a month, pop stations will start playing it and this song will make its way onto the Pop chart.

Two days later “Empire State of Mind” was our Song of the Week.
